LFO Coding Camp
Web Development Coding Camp Ages 10-15
I am running an 11-week coding camp for students of ages 10-15, where I create weekly presentations on web development, introducing a new topic every week. We’ve explored foundational topics like an introduction to HTML, local hosting and its importance, and working with real-life code examples. The students get to experiment with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, even playing around with games made with these technologies to better understand their functionality.
One of the exciting aspects of the camp is giving students the chance to design their own wireframes and user interfaces for their websites. By the end of the camp, we work together to bring these designs to life using the basic HTML and CSS knowledge they’ve gained.
In addition, I’m introducing the students to version control with Git and GitHub, helping them grasp the essentials of collaboration. We also use Visual Studio IDE and GitHub Codespaces to get hands-on with real code. To keep the sessions fun and engaging, we use Blooket quizzes to test their knowledge in a lively, interactive way. My youngest student, currently in grade 4, is an enthusiastic part of the group, and it’s amazing to see how much progress they’re making!
